5 Easy Steps to Build a DIY Dog House for Your Dog

Step 1:

Selection of Material for Base

A home without the base is useless. Base protects your dog from heat or coldness. It acts as a protective layer between the dog and the ground. Make base non-toxic and use water-resistant material. 

Step 2

Make the Base

• Use the pencil to draw dimensions for your dog’s house. Dogs house according to be his size. For a medium-sized dog cut the 2×4 wood board into four pieces. Cut two pieces 22-1/2″ long and the other two 23″ long.
• To create the rectangle, put the 23″ length pieces inside the 22-1/2″. Place the 2″ side to the ground. Use 3″ inch wood screws to attach the base pieces together.
• Use a pencil to transfer a floor plan and a framing square to a single sheet.
• To attach the floor panel to the base, use a 1-1/4″ galvanized screw.

Step 3

Putting Up Walls

• Use the real wood to make the walls for your DIY dog house. For protection from the heat make the front opening as small as possible.
• Make sure that each side is 26″ long and 16″, wide, front and back with 24″ by 16″ with an attached 24″ wide and 12″ high triangle at the top of the rectangle. The opening of the front side should be 13″ high and 10″ wide.
• Use a round object like a mixing bowl to make the opening of the front.
• To make a wall and the roof, cut out the 8 pieces.
• After this place the side panels and attach back and front panels.

Step 4

Build a Roof

• Try to build a sloppy or triangular roof. It will protect the dog’s roof from rain and snowfall.
• On the 2×2 wood draw the plans for the roof panel with 20″ wide 32″ high dimensions.
• Attach framing pieces to the inside corners of the front and back panels.
  While keeping the peak tight, place the roof panels on the top.

Step 5

Decorate Your Dog’s House

Now it’s time to decorate a DIY dog house for your dog. Use colorful paints to paint the dog’s house. You can also add fun accessories to beautify it.

• Drive nails accurately during making a house.
• House should not be much large as it will cause more heat in the summer season.
